Thoughts on Boundaries

08/08/10 | by archivist [mail] | Categories: Legacy of the Metal Wars

Another scene keeps playing in my head. It’s been about a week or so, maybe longer, since it started. I haven’t written it down yet. I’ve been waiting, toying with the thoughts and how it will play out. The issue is that it’s a mid-story event that could be the end of a chapter. It would be nice to have or rather to envision the beginning portion.

Of course, like other fan-fictions, this picks up where the show ended. And I’m working on an alternate ending. I’m planning on changing the ending because I don’t like how the show ended. I consider myself a card toting member of the PND club. That’s the ‘Pilot’s not dead’ club. The show ended with her death. My fan-fiction, however, will be different.

I added three characters into the mix that are my own creations. They will play pivotal parts in the altered-universe where Pilot survives. The trick is to work it so that the scenario doesn’t stink of cheese. The conclusion needs to be plausible so that my readers will accept the outcome. And this is the part I’m having issues with. It’s the part that I’m not seeing clearly in my mind. I can’t seem to be able to hook that part of the scenario.

Changes Major Reset

07/29/10 | by archivist [mail] | Categories: News

Let me explain what’s happening. First, while I was working on the archives for Psionics- East Coast something kept bugging me about them. After waking up this morning I came to the realization of what’s wrong. This is something I’ve been considering for a while now. Today I finally figured out what needed to be done and how. And it makes sense.

The fact is- there’s too many things going on. We had vampires, dragons, and characters expanding to god-level powers. There’s even a werecat and mention of a werewolf. There are other things going on as well but you get the idea.

As a result I am resetting the story line for Psionics Millennium: East Coast. I’m taking us back to year one. With the exception of ‘Aftermath’ and ‘New Arrivals’ is no longer considered part of the history. So, if you’re one of the players whose character had been jumped to Eternal’s Realm or twisted in a way you want to ‘undo’- this is my gift to you.

The stories that are being removed are not gone, they have simply been moved. They are preserved in a new section called ‘Alter-verse’ under ‘general archives’. The two stories remaining will be edited to remove what content there is about these creatures.

If there is something you want to keep in the Psionics universe like a letter, a scene, or something that could still happen (leaches and creatures not included) please get with me. It’s a parallel dimension away so some things could still happen.

If only we could do this to real life- right. LOL

East Coast story archives are done

07/28/10 | by archivist [mail] | Categories: News

Tonight, I am pleased to be able to say that an Archive task has been completed.

It is 11:25pm CST as I begin typing this entry. Athena is hassling me, moving around the desk meowing and cooing. She’s been like this for most of the day. Still, I managed to achieve this long standing goal and objective. It’s been over 6 years now since The RPG Organization began. We’ve seen venues come, and we’ve seen them go. Psionics remains the first, the best, and the most popular. And now it is the first with completed archives. Psionics Millennium: East Coast Year One and Year Two. The rest will come with time. I am most concerned about the story archives being finished.

I admit that for the first few years I wasn’t sure how the site should look. Ideas were there, concepts, and designs too. One of the problems has been to avoid the ‘clone effect’. With the various venues available, I thought and still believe that each one should have a unique theme.

Two years ago, thanks to Kita’s help; I started looking at sites offering free codes for designers. I started getting ideas and the options for drop down menus appealed to me. We found one that was popular and well received by the members. It’s a vertical accordion menu in red, black, and grey with white text.

After two years of issues- html, social and personal, I finally cracked the code. There were times when I had thought it was never going to be finished. Kita encouraged me to keep going. If I had to take a break, I took one. Some times it would be longer than intended (that’s partly from the depression) but I would and did get back to it.

I started to get back in to the project this past month. I tackled that menu and refused to let it beat me. And I won. I didn’t fight it; I went slow and was careful to watch the code. I backtracked each time a problem appeared, and I reworked it. I used dummy pages to help set the links. When it came time to plug in the story pages, the actual archives, it was tedious and long. One by one, I adjusted the tables on the story files to fit the pages.

In all, there is still a great deal to be done with the sub-domain. The character bios need to be added. Descriptions need to be written on the various groups and organizations, ‘special interests group’ and so forth. I expect the one on the Consortium to be the longest.

I have added some new things, tweaked others, and it’s all in the name of organization. Trust me there is a method to the madness.

There is one more story to go for the Psionics Archives. And then it’s off again. If you would like to contribute please let me know. I have a list of things that still need to be done for this sub-domain.  Most of them are descriptive write-ups.

I’m still working hard back here so that y’all can have a great place to write.

Thanks for your patience, Archivist

Update July 25, 2010

07/25/10 | by archivist [mail] | Categories: News

I have just a few things to pass along about the Psionics Millennium sub-domain. I’ve been working on the sub-site for the past two weeks. First and foremost, I’ve resolved the problems with the HTML code on the drop-down menu. Check it out when you get a chance. http://www.therpg.org/psionics/index.htm

Secondly, the pages have been completed for ‘Archives East Coast’ - year one. They are up and available for perusing, reading, and bragging. I used most of the avatars I have on file for that year. Some are new, and some avatars are the ‘currently in use’. If you want to change the image please let me know. If you don’t tell me, I’ll assume that the one in use is good with you. The same goes for year 2 and beyond. If you want a new avatar used for future stories you have to let me know. And send it to me.

My current goal is to finish the archives for Psionics Millennium by week’s end. There are 3 more to go on the ‘official archives list’. I am averaging 1 file every 1 to 2 days. We have done others which have not been archived. This means they’re sitting on Pilot’s hard drive in Word.doc or Notepad. After a recess from plugging in the ‘current / official’ archives, I’ll get to work on them.

To clarify: All of archives files are up and linked to for reading. They simply need to be tweaked to fit.

Also: On the main page of Psionics- you’ll notice it says “~ Introduction Pending” I’m working on a brief synopsis for this page.

Finally- if you want your character profile on this site, please make sure that it’s been posted to the forum.

That’s all for now; have a great day and enjoy yourself.

And remember our golden rule IRL before RPG

Psionics Finally Fixed

07/14/10 | by archivist [mail] | Categories: News

I had taken an extended hiatus from designing the sub-domains. I have finally made progress and fixed the problem with the code on the Psionics control panel. It has taken me about a week with other responsibilities and distractions. It is my hope that I will be able to complete this sub-domain by the end of August. Yes, I’m giving myself a month and half to accomplish this. For some people this may be an excessive amount. However, as Mike Holmes, of Holmes on Homes, says “Good work takes what it takes.”

For those who are interested in knowing, I will keep you apprised through this blog. As of right now the majority of the pages have been linked. I will have to adjust to the story pages and the avatars. When you look, you’ll notice that there are links as numbers- these are for stories that are ‘works in progress’ and ‘yet to be written’.

Just a note: ignore the ‘Feedback’ on the control panel. Removing this is causing problems with the code. It’s the last issue to resolve.
